Does the IRS owe you money ? | Print |

Each year millions of dollars in federal tax refunds go unclaimed by American taxpayers. This year, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) reports there are 115,478 taxpayers nationwide who have unclaimed tax refund checks totaling about $110 million.

In most cases, a tax refund goes undelivered when the IRS or U.S. Postal Service does not have the taxpayer's current address on file. If you filed your tax return and have not received your refund, you can track your refund through this secure Web site provided by the IRS: Where's My Refund?

To track your refund, be ready to enter your:

  • Social Security Number (or IRS Individual Taxpayer Identification Number)
  • Filing status (Single, Married Filing Joint Return, Married Filing Separate Return, Head of Household, or Qualifying Widow(er))
  • Exact refund amount shown on your return

Taxpayers can also use this site to update their address with the IRS.

The list of undelivered tax refund recipients can be found here.
